Step Up to the Plate: What Do You Believe?

Bat On Monday I posted about how important it is to define what you really want out of your quality process. It's like having a mission statement for your quality initiatives. Look, your company may have a mission, but does your department have a mission? Does your program have a mission? Do YOU have a mission?

I'm reminded of two great posts from QAQnA mug-clubbers Mike Sansone and Starbucker, who recently posted their very own "Crash Davis Belief Statements". I encourage you to read them, not only because these are two quality people I respect and admire, but because they are a great read. If reading them doesn't make you ask what your own "Crash Davis Belief Statement" would sound like and start the wheels spinning - you should check your pulse.

(btw, I'm still working on mine - I'll keep you "posted")

OK, I'll be the first to jump in.

I believe that jazz artistry of the Dave Brubeck Quartet is proof that a good and benevolent God exists. I believe the music of Neal Diamond is evidence that malovelent evil plagues our world. I believe there is no better drink than sun tea brewed in a glass jar on a Summer day. I believe that work is about being part of something bigger than yourself. I believe that good customer service makes the world a better place. I believe what I do for my customers will have eternal rewards. I believe in sauteed onions. I believe in crispy bacon. I believe in cleavage. I believe in the smell of gun powder coming from my shotgun on a cold fall day is a fragrance from Heaven. I believe in absolute truth and I believe the day I married my wife I became one of the luckiest men on the face of this earth.

That's what I believe...

AC

That's awesome, AC. Absolutely awesome. You get a hearty "amen" from me!

Hi Tom, glad you are jumping into this, and AC, Tom is right - "Amen" to that! AC is right on that work should be about being a part of something bigger then themselves; I try to preach that constantly to my teammates. I look forward to your belief statement Tom, and also check out Mary Schmidt's at this URL (it's a great one too): http://www.maryschmidt.com/2006/09/08/open-skies-open-minds/
All the best!

It's very important, in a civilized country, to have law and order. But some of the laws are really dumb!! Here's a collection of dumb laws for you to read. These are real laws, but many of these laws were written a very long time ago, and they were never repealed (taken out of the lawbooks). For example:
-It is illegal for a driver to wear a blindfold while driving a car in Alabama. (Well, ok, that's a good law!)

-In New York, you have to buy a license to hang clothes on a clothesline. (Do you have to go to school, too?)

-In Michigan, alligators may not be tied to fire hydrants. (Well, where the heck am I supposed to park him, officer?)

To read these dumb laws, just click on the name of a state (in the U.S.) or the name of a country.
